Charlene Sequeira is a talented designer and strategic communicator who has built a unique and impactful career that has affected change in large cities like New York. Her initial path of study in advertising was at odds with her passion for developing more sustainable daily habits and global systems, and so her moral imperative fueled a career in social and environmental impact.
Charlene and I met during the summer of 2016 in New York, where we were both studying design for social impact at the School of Visual Arts. My initial impression of her was that of determination, boundless ideas and instant approachability. The concept she’d brought to workshop throughout the summer was one I’d never heard or thought of, but that’s what she does best. Charlene has an innate ability to hone in on something specific and dissect it from countless angles without losing sight of the larger challenge, and those affected by her potential solutions. She spent the summer brainstorming ways to reduce waste at cultural celebrations, and it’s been inspiring to watch the idea grow into what it is now, which is Compassionate Systems Design.
In the video above, Charlene sat down with me to talk about her journey and what’s next. There is no doubt that her transformative ideas will continue to have a positive impact and create change where it is needed most.
